China's CPI up 5.2% year-on-year in February

According to the consumption data published on the website of the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s Consumer price indexrose by 5.2% year-on-year in February, an increase of 0.8% compared to last month. Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers rose by 4.8%, and in the rural areas by 6.3%; food prices rose by 21.9%, and increase of 4.3% compared to last month. Non-food prices rose by 0.9%, down by 0.2% compared to last month; consumer goods prices soared 7.9%, and service prices rose by 0.6%.

  

Among them, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol increased by 16.0% over last year.

The price of livestock meat increased by 87.6%, among it pork increased by 135.2%.

Price for vegetables increase by 10.9%, aquatic products +2.8%; the price of eggs increased by 1.0%; the price of food increased by 0.7%; while only the price of fresh fruits

decreased by 5.6%.

 

The outbreak of COVID-19 in February was an important factor for the overallincrease of  CPI (Consumer Price Index).
